Attractions
Borde Hill Gardens – 200 acres (80ha) of gardens, woodland and park
Beech Hurst Gardens – Miniature railway, pitch & putt, picnic site and croquet.
Wakehurst Place – Managed by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew it houses the “Millenium Seed Bank Project”.
South of England Show Ground – Exhibition and show site.
Bluebell Railway – At the southern end of the railway the station is at nearby Sheffield Park.
Transport
Road – The town is on the A272 road which runs east to west from the A267 just north west of Heathfield to Winchester in Hampshire.
Rail – Haywards Heath has 1 railway station and is served by trains on the Brighton Line.
Brief History
Haywards Heath is a relatively modern development as a settlement. There have been dwellings scattered around the area since Medieval times, including Borde Hill House. It was not until the arrival of the railway to Sussex in the mid 19th century did the town start to grow. The Sussex County Lunatic Asylum was opened here in 1859, it’s name was later changed to St Francis’s Hospital.

Robert Kazinsky – Played Sean Slater in EastEnders, was born in the town.
Daley Thompson – Olympic Decathlon Champion in 1980 & 1984
Brett Anderson – Former lead singer with “Suede”, a Britpop band.
Approximate Population
The town had a population of 22,800 at the 2001 census.
