Stone Age artefacts have been found in the surrounding locations which suggests there may have been prehistoric dwellings.

After the Roman conquest in 43 A.D., Sussex green sandstone was quarried from an area now at the foot of the Wish Tower and so a settlement grew from this development. charter, A Saxon charter, circa 963 AD, describes a landing stage and stream at Burne.

Little changed in Eastbourne until the late 18th century as at that time people believed that bathing in seawater was good for health and could cure disease. The Sovereign Harbour was developed in the 1990’s and provides a boating marina, shops and food outlets. There are also in the development a number of houses and luxury apartments
